Drawing the basics

After you have learned the basics you should be able to draw a person from any position. When you begin to draw the subject you must first visualise what you want and how you want it to look. It helps if you have a good visual sense, so that you are able to visualise the proportions of the volumes in the character. The key element in drawing is to practice fast sketches of characters in different positions but the finer points to master are.

Defining the position of the character using an axis line. This will help you find out the key points that the character will have by joining the joints together.
Add the volume to the body by using the five basic shapes shown above.
Drawing in the detail over the figure.
Once this is done you can add colour to bring the character to life.
